PM to flag off 1,400 Uttar Pradesh projects totalling investment of Rs 80,000 crore

Prime minister Narendra Modi, along with several captains of India Inc, will attend UP government's third 'ground breaking ceremony' on Friday to mark the beginning of commercial operations of about 1,400 industrial projects representing Rs 80,000 crore investment.

The government claims the investments would generate 5 lakh employment opportunities, something that is expected to strengthen the claim of the Yogi Adityanath government of an improved investment climate in the state that has seen a 12 position jump in the ease of doing business rankings in 2020 to grab the ambitious second spot. Employment is a major election plank for the state government and also the opposition's main tool to attack the government with.

With jobs being the focus area, the state wants to set up data centres at around '20,000 crore or 25% of the total investments. Noida and Greater Noida are aiming to become hubs of electronic manufacturing, and the state is among the first few to have a dedicated policy for data centres, even before the Centre's own despite the national push towards localising data storage.

, Sify Technologies, NTT Global and STT Global in the Noida-Greater Noida region. The state's 2021 data centre policy outlines development of 250 MW capacity. Agriculture and food processing sector has received the second highest investment worth about Rs 11,300 crore with companies like AB Mauri setting up a yeast making facility in Pilibhit in eastern UP and Coca Cola company's franchise partner Moon Beverages planning dairy and juice making facilities as well as bottling lines. While close to Rs 60,000 crore investment has been drawn towards western UP, eastern UP has attracted about an eighth or close to Rs 10,000.
