On August 15, the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump will take place in Alaska, with the main goal of discussing the resolution of the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
The Kremlin confirmed the meeting in the early hours of Saturday, while the meeting was preceded a few hours earlier by the announcement of Donald Trump, who, in a post on Truth Social, had announced that he would meet with Vladimir Putin on August 15 in Alaska.
The American president, who has promised countless times to put an end to this war, has repeatedly spoken on the phone with his Russian counterpart in recent months, but has not met him in person since returning to the White House on January 20.
Instead of neutral territory, their meeting was chosen to take place in the vast and wild state of Alaska, in the far north of the American continent, close to Russia; this is territory that the Russian Empire had sold to America in 1867.
“The American side has just announced an agreement to organize a meeting between the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, on Friday, August 15 in Alaska. Russia and the United States are close neighbors, with a common border,” said Vladimir Putin’s top adviser, Yuri Ushakov.
“It seems quite logical that our delegation will simply fly over the Bering Strait and that such an important and long-awaited summit between the leaders of the two countries will take place in Alaska,” he added.
Ushakov also announced that Russia has invited Donald Trump to visit Russia after the summit next Friday in Alaska.
“Looking ahead, it is natural to hope that the next meeting between the presidents will take place on Russian soil. The corresponding invitation has already been sent to the US president,” Ushakov said.
The two leaders will “focus on discussing options for achieving a long-term peaceful solution to the Ukrainian crisis,” the Russian president’s adviser said.
“This will obviously be a difficult process, but we will participate in it actively and dynamically,” he added.
Earlier, Donald Trump announced via his post on Truth Social that the “long-awaited meeting” with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will take place next Friday, August 15th in Alaska, adding that details about it will be made public later.
“The long-awaited meeting between me, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15th, 2025, in the great state of Alaska. More details to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”, he wrote.
