Sky Cinema and NOW August 2022: New movies and TV from ‘House of the Dragon’ to ‘Code 404’
It's time to return to Westeros this month on Sky Cinema and NOW, with Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon leading the Sky offering in August. That glittering series is at the centre of the streamer's output, but there's also a third series for Daniel Mays and Stephen Graham comedy Code 404 — about a technologically advanced cop.
On the movie front, the Father of the Bride remake arrives alongside a CIA thriller with Michelle Monaghan and a documentary exploring the life and death of Princess Diana.
Of course, NOW offers the chance to purchase one of its bespoke memberships, reflecting the sort of stuff you want to watch. For movie lovers, there's the NOW Cinema Membership, while telly junkies can buy the NOW Entertainment Membership and sports fans have the NOW Sports Membership available.

New movies on Sky Cinema and NOW in August 2022
Father of the Bride (5 August)
The 1940s novel Father of the Bride has already been adapted twice for the big screen, with the 1990s version starring Steve Martin by far the most famous. It has now been resurrected yet again, with Andy Garcia and Gloria Estefan leading this Cuban-American take on the story. They play a couple on the verge of divorce who are stopped in their tracks when one of their daughters announces that she is engaged to be married in a month's time.
The Good Neighbour (6 August)
Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who played Henry VIII in TV series The Tudors, plays the title character in this lurid thriller. He's the neighbour to Luke Kleintank's character David and the two are in a car together when David hits and kills a cyclist. They flee the scene and agree to keep the crime secret, which presents problems when David meets and falls for the dead girl's sister.
Black Site (12 August)
Michelle Monaghan and Jason Clarke take centre stage in this thriller set within the confines of a secret CIA facility for high-value criminal targets. Monaghan plays Abby Trent — the agent in charge of the base — while Clarke is the gruesome serial killer Hatchet, who was responsible for murdering Abby's husband. When Hatchet gets free and begins murdering her colleagues, it falls to Abby to thwart his bid for freedom.

The Princess (14 August)
Released in cinemas earlier this year after appearing at the Sundance Film Festival, this documentary from Ed Perkins uses archive footage to weave together the tapestry of Princess Diana's time in the royal family spotlight. It's a bracing watch and pulls no punches in depicting the way the British obsession with the palace soap opera contributed to Diana's untimely passing.

Bakugan Evolutions S4 (1 August)
This anime series continues to explore the relationship between a preteen group of video creators and the titular race of biomechanical creatures they have uncovered.
The Fatal Attraction Murders (1 August via Peacock)
Carolyn Warmus found herself at the centre of enormous tabloid attention when she was dubbed "The Fatal Attraction Killer" by the press after allegedly murdering her lover's wife, in reference to the 1980s erotic thriller movie. This two-part documentary special delves into whether Warmus was actually responsible for the crime, or whether she simply proved a narrative-friendly scapegoat.
Irma Vep S1 (2 August)
Acclaimed French filmmaker Olivier Assayas returns to the ground he covered in his 1996 movie Irma Vep with this eight-part series made for HBO. Alicia Vikander plays actress Mira Harberg, who hopes to recover her reputation after a tabloid scandal by playing the role of Irma Vep in a remake of the silent crime serial Les Vampires. Over time, the boundary between reality and fiction blurs for Mira.
New Amsterdam S4 (weekly from 3 August)
America loves a medical drama, with New Amsterdam following Dr Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) as he takes over one of the oldest public hospitals in the USA. Season four is the penultimate run of the show, which will end after five seasons. The cast also includes former Doctor Who star Freema Agyeman.
Code 404 S3 (weekly from 4 August)
One of Sky's most enjoyable comedy series returns for a third run as Daniel Mays and Stephen Graham revive their unusual buddy cop partnership for Code 404. Mays again plays the AI-enhanced DI John Major opposite Graham as the capable DI Roy Carver. This time around, they're investigating the murder of one of their colleagues.
Stevie Nicks: Live at Red Rocks (5 August)
This 1986 concert, filmed amid the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, follows Stevie Nicks on the final date of her inaugural solo tour after leaving Fleetwood Mac.
Micah Richards' Player Pranks S1 (weekly from 6 August)
Micah Richards has become as famous for his laugh as for his football ability and he's parlaying that reputation into this new series in which he puts his love for pranks centre stage. Via the use of hidden cameras, he subjects famous faces from the football world to absurd situations.
Paul Simon: Under African Skies (6 August)
Paul Simon celebrates the 15th anniversary of his landmark album Graceland with this concert, filmed in South Africa. The album featured an array of African talent.
Revolution of Sound: Tangerine Dream (7 August)
Tangerine Dream founder Edgar Froese passed away in 2015 and this documentary serves as a tribute to the impact he and the group made on musical history. It uses new interviews as well as previously unseen archive footage to tell the Tangerine Dream story.
Cirque du Soleil: Delirium (9 August)
Cirque du Soleil's first ever arena show transposes the group's unique blend of showmanship and acrobatics to an even bigger canvas than they have utilised in the past.
One Shot: The Football Factory (11 August)
Filmed over the course of 18 months, this series follows young footballers from South London as they hone their skills in the hope of being spotted by a major club and catapulted to stardom on the sport's biggest stage.
House of the Dragon (weekly from 12 August)
Two centuries before the events of Game of Thrones, Westeros was ruled over by the blonde-haired dragon riders of the Targaryen dynasty. It is into that world that this new series transports viewers, with Paddy Considine's King Viserys I Targaryen sat on the Iron Throne and his children — played by Matt Smith and Emma D'Arcy preparing to succeed him. Experienced Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik is at the helm of the first episode.
A League of Their Own S17 (weekly from 18 August)
The sports-based panel show returns for yet another series, with host Romesh Ranganathan joined by team captain Jamie Redknapp and a revolving selection of guests from the worlds of sport, comedy and entertainment.
The Numan Method (TBC)
Gary Numan announced his retirement from the music business in 1981, cutting off a seemingly meteoric rise. This documentary follows Numan as he gets candid about what fuelled his decision to leave the limelight, while preparing for his Wembley Arena comeback in May 2022.
Bull S6 (TBC)
This legal drama returns, with Michael Weatherly's titular psychologist working to rescue his kidnapped daughter. The abductor has threatened him to avoid police involvement, which means it's all down to Bull and his team.
Day of the Dead S1 (TBC)
Based on the 1985 movie of the same name by the famed zombie maestro George A. Romero, this series focuses in on a group of six strangers as they work to survive during the first 24 hours of a zombie epidemic.
Killer In My Village S6 (TBC)
This true crime series returns to explore more horrific acts of violence perpetrated within the quaint, bucolic environs of British villages and countryside dwellings.
MC Grammar Wonder Raps S2 (TBC)
MC Grammar returns with more educational raps, designed to help children to engage with some of the topics they will cover during Key Stage Two.
Patagonia (TBC)
Comprising parts of Argentina and Chile, Patagonia is one of the most under-explored regions on Earth and therefore is home to a huge variety of flora and fauna. This jaw-dropping series delves into the secret lives of the creatures that make this tough landscape their home.
