The Best Booths at Frieze New York, From Stabbed Footballs to Twisted Steel Creations

On a sunny spring Wednesday, the 2022 edition of Frieze New York opened to VIPs at 11 a.m. at the Shed in Hudson Yards. This iteration of Frieze feels a little tighter than past New York editions—there are only 66 exhibitors, as opposed to the nearly 200 that showed at the fair when it was on Randall’s Island. Still, even with fewer galleries, the fair feels more claustrophobic.

At the VIP opening, dealers reported solid sales. Roaming the aisles were some of the world’s top collectors, including Pamela Joyner, Beth Rudin DeWoody, Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Don and Mera Rubell, Jill Kraus, Bob Fisher, and Bob Rennie, and museum directors Thelma Golden (the Studio Museum in Harlem), Michael Govan (the Los Angeles County Museum of Art), Anne Pasternak (the Brooklyn Museum), and Max Hollein (the Metropolitan Museum of Art).

Below, a look at some of the best art on offer at the fair.
