Tiger Woods predictions by top model that nailed Masters finish

2022 PGA Championship odds, picks

When Tiger Woods won the 2007 PGA Championship, he was 21st in strokes gained on the putting green that season with an average of .443 strokes gained per round. It was a decidedly different story for him more than a decade later at the 2022 Masters, where he finished his only competitive tournament this season with a minus-1.3 strokes gained putting. He was still able to finish the Masters against remarkable odds and now will compete in the 2022 PGA Championship.

Woods has been firing practice rounds at Southern Hills Country Club ahead of Round 1 of the PGA Championship 2022 on Thursday. Woods has held steady at 40-1 in the 2022 PGA Championship odds at Caesars Sportsbook, but is he worth including as a speculative best bet in his second major of the year? Before locking in your 2022 PGA Championship picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, it’s up almost $7,500 on its best bets since that point, nailing tournament after tournament.

At the 2022 Masters, McClure’s model was all over Scottie Scheffler’s first career major championship victory heading into the weekend. The model also nailed Tiger Woods’ exact finishing position at Augusta National before the tournament started (47th). In addition, McClure’s best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright at the 2021 Open Championship, even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot.

This same model has also nailed a whopping eight majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the 2022 PGA Championship field is taking shape, SportsLine simulated the event 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected 2022 PGA Championship leaderboard.

Model’s top 2022 PGA Championship predictions

One huge shocker the model is calling for at the PGA Championship 2022: McIlroy, a 20-time PGA Tour champion and one of the top favorites, stumbles at Southern Hills and barely cracks the top 10. McIlroy has the second-highest average finish among all active PGA golfers on the tour this season at 21.14, but in his last five majors, he’s missed one cut, finished 46th or worse in two others, and managed to take a seventh-place finish before coming away with a second place performance in this year’s Masters.

While McIlroy’s talent is undeniable, his consistency in big tournaments and pressure-filled moments has made for many snake bites over the years. Although he looked sharp in his last event at the Wells Fargo Championship, he struggled with his effectiveness around the green, and found himself taking a minus-0.15 strokes gained average on such shots. Considering McIlroy’s accuracy out of the tee box has never been his forte, his ability to recover becomes critical, but it’s difficult to push for a win when he doesn’t have a handle on those shots.

The model has also revealed where Tiger Woods will finish in the 2022 PGA Championship. When Woods won the 2007 PGA Championship at Southern Hills, he was able to overwhelm the field with a second-round 63 that tied the course record. He won that tournament by two shots, but at this stage of his career, he’s much more of a course manager than a player who can overpower the field.

Southern Hills has also been redesigned in the 15 years since Woods’ win, and Gil Hanse’s work has been praised for staying true to the original Perry Maxwell design. Woods will have to overcome the fact that he’s no longer one of the longest hitters on tour. Is he healthy enough to put together another strong week following his car accident in Feb. 2021? How to make 2022 PGA Championship picks

The model is also targeting three golfers with odds of 20-1 or longer who will make surprising runs. Anyone who backs these long shots could hit it big. You can only see them here.
